Hand/wrist warmers

I did these hand/wrist warmers to test a pattern I found on the internet and I'm quite pleased with how they turned out, so these ones I think I will keep for myself. :)

Now I can't find where I downloaded the pattern from. Kicking myself that I didn't bookmark the site. If anyone should happen to be reading and knows who wrote the pattern, I will happily give credit.

[Edit: found the link to the pattern here]

I plan to do this for my sister's birthday, but I might do some tweaking of the basic pattern, make them a little bit longer or something. I think I will vary the colours too, just for a bit of fun.

It's a pity it's summer here so I don't need to wear them yet. Looking forward to winter now!

So, here they are...

To spend my birthday knitting....

...watching dvds and playing the sims (yes, all at once) seems a wonderful luxury.  I should be doing some housework today and I will do a little bit of tidying up, but for now I'm going to enjoy my knitting and movies.

Today I am working on a pattern I found at the Lincraft (an Australian sewing and craft chain - the site has a fair number of free patterns so worth checking out) website: a Beanie with Rosette that looks kinda cute.  I'm not following the pattern exactly in that I've made the headband part a different colour to the main part of the beanie just to see how that looks.  This beanie is an experiment, so I'm not sure if I'll keep it myself.  Might give it to Nichy, a friend who's staying with us, if she likes it, but I may keep it for myself.

What I am considering is my sister Helen's birthday in April.  I've now done projects for my sister Roz's birthday last year and for my brother for Christmas, now I think it needs to be Helen's turn.  Not entirely sure what I'll do, but the beanie is cute, plus I thought I could do wristwarmers and perhaps a scarf or a shawl.  She works from home at her computer and it can get cold in winter, so I'm thinking of what she can use for that.  But we'll see.  Have to do some experimenting before the final projects anyway.

Roz's birthday pressie 2010 - a snuggle rug

Roz with rug

I made this rug last year for my sister Roslyn for her birthday. The loungeroom in her house is quite cold in winter, so I made this with the idea she could use it to snuggle up with while she watches TV.

Yarns used: Feathers, Eyelash, Soft 8-ply. (Can't remember the brands at the moment)

The Pattern

This is the pattern I drew up for the rug.

A Pile of Knitting

Pile of squares. There are over 100 of them! 10cm by 10cm.

The Strips

Some of the strips of plain yarn, to put between groups of squares. Done in seed stitch
